Here at the Modesto Grappling Club students are taught the art of Submission Grappling. The curriculum of this grappling art is presented in a systematic format. All students have the opportunity to learn and be promoted to seven different levels of rank. Each level represents the student's knowledge and level of ability, similar to a belt ranking. Rank and promotion are determined by: Practice, Time in Grade, Submission Grappling Terminology, Competition, and Technical Demonstration.
Level I Novice
Rank Color White
All students begin as a level I Novice Grappler.
Level II Apprentice
Rank Color Yellow
"A beginner; a learner. One who is learning by practical experience under skilled instructors."
Level III Cadet
Rank Color Green
" One who is in training under qualified instructors to be a leader and instructor."
Level IV Instructor
Rank Color Blue
"One who instructs at a primary or elementary level; a teacher."
Level V Expert
Rank Color Purple
" Having, involving or displaying special skill or knowledge derived from training and experience."
Level VI Senior Instructor
Rank Color Brown
"One that excels in skill and knowledge. A highly skilled person who is able to follow his art independently and able to supervise and instruct the progress of others."
Level VII Professor
Rank Color Black
"A person recognized as having achieved the highest degree of skill in a given art. One that teaches special knowledge of an art requiring skill."
